Editorial Services and Rates

Even the best writers need help sometimes. The most beautiful words still need to be checked for concision, coherence, and grammar. I'm here to help bring your work to its fullest potential. I've worked with full-length manuscripts, short stories, marketing materials, promotional flyers, and company newsletters.

Please find below a summary of my services and rates. Please feel free to contact me for a consultation to decide which services best fit your project goals and needs. Keep in mind that these are individual services. If you feel that your work needs a Basic Copyedit and a Developmental Edit, those services will be charged separately.

Proofreading
Service: A Proofread is your last line of defense before publication. I will correct any typos and misplaced punctuation, as well as any layout issues like page numbering, heading consistency, line and page breaks, and figure and table placement.

Estimated Pace: 8-12 pages / hour
Fee: $20 / hour

Basic Copyediting
Service: When performing a Basic Copyedit, I will correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, usage, style, and syntax. I will also check for technical consistency with regards to spelling, capitalization, font usage, numerals, and hyphenation. I will also fact check the text.

Estimated Pace: 5-10 pages / hour
Fee: $30 / hour

Heavy Copyediting
Service: When performing a Heavy Copyedit, I will correct all the errors I would in a Basic Copyedit. In addition, I will eliminate wordiness and inappropriate jargon, smooth transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and move sentences to improve readability. I will suggest, and sometimes implement, additions and deletions, noting them at the sentence and paragraph level. For works of fiction, I will track the continuity of plot, setting, and character traits.

Estimated Pace: 2-5 pages / hour
Fee: $40 / hour

Website Copyediting
Service: When editing Website Copy, I'll look at everything from how accurately the title reflects the content to whether or not that content is effectively communicating your point. I will also check for basic spelling and grammar.

Fee: $40 / hour

Developmental Editing
Service: When performing a Developmental Edit, I will address the structure and content of your work. I'll make you aware if your tone is inconsistent, your audience unclear, or your ideas could be better presented or presented. For works of fiction, I'll look to make sure that your pacing, plot, characters, and setting are presented in the most effective way possible. Then, we will work together to fix those issues. I'll send you commentary and suggestions, and you will send revised drafts to me. Developmental Editing is usually a multi-draft process, but you may also choose simply to take one round of suggestions from me before continuing on your way.

Estimated Pace: 1-5 pages / hour
Fee: $50 / hour

Substantive or Line Editing
Service: When performing a Line Edit, I will address your creative content, writing style, and language use at the sentence and paragraph level of your text. I will not address errors in punctuation or grammar, only the way you use your language to communicate your point. I will ensure that your writing is clear, concise, fluid, and pleasurable to read. I will also remove generalizations, cliches, and gender inappropriate language.

Estimated Pace: 1-6 pages / hour
Fee: $50 / hour
